Description
This Paddlesports Safety and Rescue Course is brought to you by Dartmoor Adventures, on behalf of Paddles Up Training. Designed by Paddle UK and British Canoeing Awarding Body to equip you with all the skills and knowledge for staying safe whilst paddling in the sheltered water environment. This 6 hour course will give you the knowledge to prepare effectively, resulting in safer and more enjoyable journeys and give you all the skills to solve problems that can arise when things don’t go to plan.
Who is this course for? Anyone who paddles, or wants to paddle in sheltered water environments. Casually, as part of a club, or as a step towards leadership qualifications. A sheltered water environment, is defined as: Ungraded (no rapids) sections of slow moving river and areas of open water (such as lakes, lochs and estuaries) where you are within 200meters of the shore, the wind is under force 3 and the tide is less than half a knot. If this sounds like the sorts of places you paddle, then this course if for you!
This course is open to all ages, to get the most out of the course you’ll need to be confident paddling in the above environment, either holding the paddle explore award or be at that skill level. You’ll spend a lot of time in the water, so being water confident and dressed appropriately are important. This course is hands on all day so you’ll need to be prepared to swim, drag and lift! We’ll teach you the safe manual handling skills, but you’ll need to be fit enough for a fairly intense day.
